Really love it a lot! I was invested sooner than I anticipated and that's such a specific need for a short story! You're so cool -- Kudos!

This is fantastic! I really enjoy short stories that are entertaining and satisfying on their own but open up so many questions about the world and character beyond the bounds of the story. This has all of those features! You did an excellent job developing characters and a rich world in just a few scenes. While I would love to know more about them, what you've given here is definitely enough to still evoke an emotional response and build toward an impactful ending. Loved reading this story!

Thank you so much!! It's really fun and free to give hints to characters and a world without having to flesh them out all the way and really make sense.

I would like to know more about these characters too! Maybe I'll explore them more one day.

I think this is a great take on the prompt. Niels has a such an interesting story to follow, and I really enjoyed what you did with the throne. I was definitely getting those cosmic horror vibes. Good luck in the Lunar Awards!

I wrote this for a short story competition run by Lunar awards. This was the prompt I followed.

"The current people of your world discover or utilize the structures of a lost culture or civilization. The ruins of this city can either be restored or decayed, but must play a key role in the plot. Does this lost city hold the power to aid or destroy its latest denizens?"

It's also somewhat inspired by the song "The Throne Room" by fish in a birdcage. I chalk up how cosmic horror-y it is to the fact that I've been reading Jeff VanderMeer. If you've read all this (or just the story), I'd love to hear what you thought!
